Development Model

Over the years Sampark has developed its own development model, which is used in almost all the projects. It begins with rapport building and needs assessment and ends with phase out.

Rapport building is mainly done through street play campaigns, concientisaton and regular meetings, before Sampark makes formal entry.

Formation of people’s groups is integral to all the work that Sampark does. These groups are in the shape of self help groups (SHGs). The SHGs are, however, not merely savings and credit groups, but a mean of organising people, because they are federated to Gram Vikas Samitis (Village Development Councils) and Mahila Mandals (Women’s Forums).

While Gram Vikas Samitis mainly take up education related work, Mahila Mandals mainly take up health related aspects. While using the word education, Sampark does so in its widest possible meaning and the word is not confined to formal or informal education. In health aspects awareness, check-up camps and OPD (out patient departments) are conducted.

Both Gram Vikas Samitis and Mahila Mandals converge to carry out on farm and off farm economic activities. The former include soil and water conservation, while the latter include animal husbandry and renewable energy.

Capacity of the participating community is built in all aspects through workshops, exposure visits and organisation of Gram Utsavas (village festivals).

When the targets are achieved, Sampark phases out.
