Sampark’s target group is Bhil tribals, mired in illiteracy, poverty and lack of access to resources. Their condition is worsened because of particular geographical setting of the area where they live. The area is full of stony soil and is rain deficient.
In view of this, the developmental interventions are in the following domains:
Education
Tribals have lowest literacy rate among the Indians. Education system has failed to reach tribals. Even if it has reached them in selected pockets, they do not understand the importance of education in changing lives for better. Education interventions are centred around linking the tribals with the mainstream education system. Read On...
Health
Like education, tribals also have very poor health status. While on one hand their traditional wisdom in health has vanished with the passage of time, modern system of medicine is out of reach for most of them. Interventions in health include reaching health services to the tribals and revival of traditional medicinal systems. Read On...
Livelihood and Agriculture
Tribals’ lives were depended more on forests than on agriculture. During the last three decades large tracts of forests have fallen to axe and tribals' dependence on agriculture increased. Market forces have exploited this change. Sampark found an answer to tribals' problems in resorting to traditional agriculture, which was based on traditional seeds and local resources. Read On...
Soil and Water Conservation
With the continuous decline in forest cover, water sources dried up and soil erosion increased. Large scale soil and water conservation efforts are being made in the target area. Read On...
Rain Water Harvesting
The operational area is rain-deficient and suffers from frequent bouts of drought. The situation worsens during summers when even drinking water becomes scarce and people are seen walking long distances for fetching drinking water. To cope up with the situation Sampark is laying considerable emphasis on rain water harvesting. Read On...
Local Self Governance
