This intervention is being carried out in collaboration with different government departments, particularly Agriculture Department. Watershed Development Committees are key to interventions and have been formed in 49 villages. These committees have been registered as society and their members trained.
Village Development Funds have been constituted in all the villages. Village Development Fund is used for running project activities after the programme activities cease. User Groups have been formed to maintain and proper use of the structures constructed in the village. Thus, two kinds of committees have been formed in the village: One, Development Committees under which are Watershed Development Committees and User Groups, and, two, Economic Development Committees, which include Village Development Fund and Self Help Groups.
Considerable emphasis is being paid to agricultural investment. Distribution of zinc, sulphate, organic manure, neem oil, ferroment trap, seeds like maize, soyabean, etc,. has been done. Cows are being provided to the people. For promoting cultivation of garlic, onion, tomato, etc., their seeds have been given to the agriculturists. For this, land availability and its quality, availability of water, capacity of farmers and their will power are criteria. A total of 1,690 farming families have benefited so far.
For operating Village Development Fund and accounts management, two active persons from each village have been imparted training in accounts keeping.
A few members have been sent to outstation training so they can learn techniques to produce items like washing powder, soap, indigo, etc. A few women have also been provided tailoring training.
As a result of this programme, people have started building rapport with the government departments and looking after the structures and water tanks constructed. Water users are carrying forward plantation under sylvipasture and activities implemented earlier.
