Buniyadi Shala

Buniyadi Shala

Lighting the Path to Learning

In tribal villages, many children miss school to help their families in the fields or with cattle. To address this, Sampark launched the Night School Program in 1992 — offering evening classes so children could study after work. At its peak, 10 night schools were running across villages.

Local Teachers, Local Impact

Finding teachers for night shifts in remote areas was a challenge. Sampark trained local youth (often up to 10th grade pass) and supported them with regular workshops, turning them into confident community educators.

A School Under the Stars

Children came to class with solar lanterns and learned using the Bhanva no Kandiya kit, a box of engaging learning tools. These schools nurtured curiosity without disrupting daily life.

A Bigger Dream Begins

This successful model paved the way for the Sampark Buniyadi Shaala, founded in 2004 — a school grounded in Gandhiji’s Nai Talim, where learning is woven into life and livelihood.

Holistic, Skill-Based Learning

Sampark Sanstha’s Buniyadi Shala is a residential school model established in 2004 to provide education to tribal children, particularly those affected by seasonal migration of their parents. The school is rooted in the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi’s Nai Talim, which emphasizes self-reliance and the integration of vocational training with formal education. The Buniyadi Shala follows the Madhya Pradesh Education Board curriculum while incorporating life skills, value education, and practical learning. Children engage in activities like agriculture, tailoring, soap-making, and handicrafts alongside their academic studies. This not only imparts employable skills but also fosters confidence and independence. With facilities such as science labs, a library, and digital resources, the school provides a stimulating learning environment. The student-led committee system instills leadership and responsibility, promoting democratic values among learners.

Cultural Roots and Sustainable Living

The school emphasizes cultural education, integrating local traditions, music, art, and storytelling to help children stay connected to their heritage. The consistent 100% pass rate in the 10th board examinations is a testimony to the school’s academic rigor and supportive environment. Sustainability is also a key focus, with the school practicing organic farming, rainwater harvesting, and the use of solar energy. This holistic approach nurtures not only intellectual development but also emotional and social growth, making Buniyadi Shala a model for rural and tribal education.
